Simulation of a Vertical Turbulent Three-Phase Fluid Flow in order to Predict Solid Particle Deposition

This research seeks to find answers to the fundamental questions of asphaltene deposition in production tubes. ANSYS FLUENT and CFD-POST are used to simulate the flow conditions. The thermodynamics are involved by using virtual plates for different asphaltene particle groups to emerge. Asphaltene particles are treated as solid spheres and tracked individually. The effect of gas presence and tube shape are investigated. The simulation validation is done, using field data. The results align perfectly with the field data and show 133.15% improvements in deposition rate predictions for Marrat oil field. Two specific part of tubing is simulated. 90% decrement in the deposition rate is observed, which is actually happening in the field.
