The readers' ability to integrate current information with given information has been considered as an important component of reading comprehension p rocess. One aspect of this integration process involves anapho ric resolution. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the underlying processes of anaphoric resolution by 90 undergra duate English as foreign lang uage students at Islamic Azad University, Khorasgan Branch (Iran). The study is intended to investigate different types of anaphoric ties occurring in expository texts and their different inferential demands. It has been demonstrated that anaphoric resolution is affected by linguistic and textual constraints and different types of an aphoric ties have dif ferent i nferential demands. Furthermore, it has be en shown that there is a positive relationship between the participants’ anaphoric resolution ability and their overall language pr oficiency level. The findings are also yielded a significant correlation be tween the ability to resolve one type of anaphoric tie with overall anaphoric resolution ability of the participants.
